'Manchester Accent' Masterclass with Simon Money

SIBERIAN LIGHTS WORKSHOPS FOR WOMXN | DETAILS | We are thrilled to be bringing you the second in our series of Online Accent Workshops with the resident voice coach from The National Theatre to introduce you to the Manchester Accent. Simon will introduce the accent, with links to sound files/samples and then lead the group through the building blocks of the sound in question. Focus will fall variously on major sound shifts (vowel and consonants)as well as placement, intonation, etc. Participants will be provided with a dialect breakdown sheet including practise sentences/trigger phrases and Simon will lead the group whilst offering feedback. The session will conclude with application of sound skills to an appropriate text. The workshop will be a space in which mistakes are encouraged and celebrated. | ABOUT SIMON | Simon is resident voice coach at the National Theatre as well as coordinating a successful freelance career as an accent/dialect coach. He spent two years apprenticed to Patsy Rodenburg at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and graduated with an MA in Training Actors. His work in theatre includes The Welkin, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, ‘Master Harold’... and the boys, Top Girls, Rutherford and Son and Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear – the Musical! at the National; Doctor Faustus and Don Quixote for the RSC; the world premiere of SUM at the Royal Opera House; Ravens at Hampstead.
